Perfect Finish by Peter Cornwell.
England 1 Germany 0, Euro 2000. On the 17th of June 2000 England once again faced their old nemesis Germany in a Group A qualifying match at Euro 2000. England entered the game knowing that they had not defeated Germany in a competitive match since the famous World Cup victory in 1966. Germany made four changes to the side that had drawn with Romania including the introduction of midfielder Sebastian Deisler, whilst England had been forced to replace Tony Adams and Steve McManaman with Martin Keown and Dennis Wise due to injury. As expected the game started at a frenetic pace and Jancker made things difficult for England's central defenders early on with his height and strength. England appeared to be lacking cohesion and allowed Germany to take control of the game. Deisler brought the German crowd to their feet with a clever run down the right hand side and minutes later Hamaan had their first strike on goal which was hit directly at David Seaman. England were looking for a flash of inspiration and it was very nearly delivered as Michael Owen managed to meet Phil Neville's cross with his head but only managed to direct the ball on to the post. Paul Scholes in typical fashion drove a ferocious volley, which was tipped just over the bar, and suddenly it appeared that England were beginning to find some weaknesses in certain areas of the German side. At the interval little separated the two sides however, England started the second half with a steely determination. After just seven minutes David Beckham earned his side a free kick in a very dangerous position on the England right. With good movement from the forwards in the German area Beckham swung a speculative cross into the six yard box. Owen, beaten by the pace, failed to connect but man of the match Alan Shearer anticipated the kind bounce and without hesitation headed the ball back across Kahn and into the right hand side of the German goal. The England captain had broken the deadlock and instilled in his side the belief that they could finally defeat their oldest rivals. Germany threw everything they had at England but Keegan's team were equal to the task in every area of the pitch. As the final whistle blew a huge roar erupted from the England supporters as Alan Shearer's goal had ended over thirty years of frustration and sealed his place in the history books as one of England's greatest ever strikers.

Signed limited edition of 600 prints.

Image size 20 inches x 14 inches (51cm x 36cm) Paper size including text and printed remarques 27 inches x 19.5 inches (69cm x 50cm)

SPC043. Twist in the Tale by Peter Cornwell.
Englands victory over Austrlia in 2000. In their first game in five months, England achieved what many regarded as the impossible, a victory over the World Champions Australia. From the outset England pressurised Australia with some fast attacking rugby. Within the first quarter of an hour England were rewarded with two penalties and took a 6 - 0 lead. Australia quickly levelled the score through the boot of Matt Burke. Penalties were exchanged again before Griffin was sin binned just before half time, which England took full advantage of and nosed in fron 12 - 9 through Johnny Wilkinson. Although Australia began the second half a man down it was in fact they who started the brighter side. Englands forwards gave away a careless free kick and with a quick tap and go Australia drove the ball downfield and after some outstannding work by Joe Roff spun the ball out to the left for Burke to score. Burke successfully converted his own try and went on to increase Australias lead with yet another penalty eight minutes into the second half, making the score 12 - 19. England needed to make changes. Matt Dawson was brought on for Bracken and Balshaw replaced Austin Healey. With victory in sight Australia began to slow the game down and the crowd became increasingly incensed. Wilkinson kicked a further penalty and with time slipping away England began to enforce an increasing amount of pressure on the Australian defence. With just seconds remaining Balshaw saw Englands only hope of victory and placed an inch perfect chip over the Australian defensive line for Dan Luger to chase. With outstanding anticipation Luger managed to touch the ball down. After confirmation by the video referee and the conversion by Wilkinson, which followed, England had managed to secure a memorable victory over Australia, winning 22 - 19.

Sold Out Edition. Will to Win by Peter Cornwell.
England v South Africa, Twickenham, 2nd December 2000. With impressive victories over Australia and Argentina under their belts, England entered the game against the Springboks with an air of confidence. Having tied the summer test series in South Africa 1-1 with a memorable win in Bloemfontein, England were aware that victory was well within their capabilities. As in Bloemfontein, Jonny Wilkinson proved to be a threat to the South Africans and dissected the posts in just seven minutes to put three points on the board for England. However, the Springboks' reply was swift and Braam Van Straaten leveled the scores within three minutes. England's pack dominated the opening quarter with some punishing forward drives, assisted by some cleverly crafted interplay in the backs and Wilkinson's second penalty on thirteen minutes was just reward for their endeavour. But in typical fashion the Springboks refused to be rolled over. A well worked set move enabled the South Africans to spin the ball wide and with Breyton Paulse's presence on the wing giving South Africa a man over Montgomerie was able to cut through some poor England defence and would have scored if not for Dan Luger's perfectly timed tackle preventing Montgomerie from grounding the ball. The South Africans continued to probe England's defensive line and eventually England conceded a penalty in front of the posts which Van Straaten easily converted and once again brought the score level at 6-6. With just ten minutes remaining until half time the England pack began to assert themselves on the Springboks. Wilkinson secured his third penalty of the match and England nosed ahead once again. The Springboks began to lose their composure under the constant pressure of the home side and it was here that England took full advantage. Wilkinson collected the ball from scrum half Matt Dawson and whilst almost stationary fed Will Greenwood with a cleverly distributed short pass. With a turn of pace Greenwood burst through two South African defenders and headed for the opposition's try line. A shrewd drop of the shoulder enabled Greenwood to side step the two remaining defenders before crossing the line close to the posts. Wilkinson's typically accurate conversion made it 16-6 but Van Straaten reduced the lead to just seven points with a penalty just prior to the break. A fourth penalty from the boot of Wilkinson quickly ensued and England went into the interval 19-9 leaders. South Africa commenced the second half the much stronger side and Van Straaten punished some poor England tackling to score a try just five minutes from the restart. He failed to convert but had managed to reduce the deficit to five points and in doing so placed England on the defence. England weathered the storm and even managed to stretch their lead as South Africa conceded a penalty wide on the left. The Springboks endeavoured to exert some pressure on England and in doing so lost the cohesion that they possessed at the start of the second half. Wilkinson kicked a further two penalties in reply to just three points from Van Straaten. England had defeated the mighty Springboks with a spirited display and in doing so demonstrated their strength in depth and established themselves as one of the most feared sides in the world.

Two prints available of this sold out edition.

Signed by :
Will Greenwood
and
Neil Back.

Signed limited edition of 495 prints.

 Paper size 27.5 inches x 19.5 inches (70cm x 49cm)

SPC112.
