Likely during the Battle of Worth, 6 August 1870. The Battle of Worth was a decisive victory for the German Third Army under Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm against the French First Corps led by Marshal Patrice MacMahon. Despite the bravery of the French cavalry, their efforts were insufficient to prevent a rout, leading to significant French casualties and a crucial German advance in the Franco-Prussian War. One of the most dramatic moments of the engagement was when the French right flank was collapsing. The cavalry launched a desperate and heroic charge to cover the retreat, but it ended disastrously due to the overwhelming firepower and numbers of the German forces.
