Alfred Rebuilding the Walls of London by F.O Salisbury. [Antique]

In 866 Alfred besieged London and afer considerable fighting gained possession of the city, which had hitherto been in the hands of the Danes. He then rebuilt and fortified it, planted it with military settlers and appointed Ethelred Ealdorman of Mercia as its governor.
