A British unit of Royal Engineers construct a bridge to cross a river whilst under attack. Construction of bridges while under direct fire was a perilous task, but as a testament to the skill of the Sappers, on the 28th of September 1918 a 108 foot long bridge was built over the Canal du Nord at Marquion whilst under fire in a task that lasted over 12 hours.
