Charge of the 9th Lancers - August 24th, 1914 by Allan Stewart (PC)
Type: Postcard
During the Action of Elogues, a small skirmish that took place on the 24th of August 1914, the 4th (Royal Irish) Dragoon Guards and A Squadron, the 9th (Queens Royal) Lancers led a successful cavalry charge against German gun positions, pictured here. Note that: The title of this illustration suggests that this is the charge of the 9th Lancers, however, the horses that took part in that charge would not have been grey. Grey horses were dyed dark brown to make them less conspicuous, so this depiction of grey horses being used by either the 4th Dragoon Guards (who used black horses) or the 9th Lancers (who used brown horses) is fictitious.
Collectors postcard - first edition of 90 cards.
Postcard size 6 inches x 4 inches (15cm x 10cm)
