Halt of the Fusiliers by Major T S Seccombe.
Fusiliers at rest, about mid-nineteenth century, around the time of the Crimean War.
One of a pair of original antique watercolours with charcoal and body colour, this has the title hand written on the reverse. One the other painting, there is also a hand-written note attached which reads - Painted by Lt Col Seccombe. Belonged to Alfred Hoole of Hallam Gate, Sheffield, father of Dorice Beaumont. Records suggest Alfred Hoole was a veterinary surgeon from a prominent Sheffield family. A Dorice Beaumont, daughter of Alfred Hoole of Hallam Gate , Sheffield is recorded as getting married in Port Said in 1917. There is also a framer's label from Eadon and Son, Carvers, Gilders and Upholsterers - a business operating in Sheffield in the mid-nineteenth century.
