Bearing urgent dispatches from the fleet, the role of the Royal Navy frigate was frequently to press on through all weathers to bear the communications between the fleet and the Admiralty. These fast ships were often manned by minimal crews and would be trusted to make great haste, conveying orders and reports over vast distances - a vital link to ensure the success of major actions planned, or in progress anywhere in the world.
