Royal Horse Artillery, c.1832 by Harry Payne
The Royal Regiment of Artillery has one of the most distinguished records of any in the British Army. It had small beginnings and in 1716 there were only two small companies. The Horse Artillery not added until 1793, though it was not entirely separated from the Field Artillery until after the Boer War. Its utility was strikingly demonstrated during the long struggle with France.
