The 9th Lancers at Chilleanwallah by Stanley Wood [Postcard]

During the Second Sikh War members of the 9th Lancers regiment joined Sir Hugh Goughs army at Ferozepore, fighting at the Battle of Ramnuggur before marching on Chillianwallah. The battle was costly for the British, the Sikh forces eventually driven off, making their escape along with their artillery. This lead to heavy criticism being levied at Sir Hugh Gough for allowing this to occur at a cost of the lives of British troops. Image taken from original book plates published in 1915.
