The Battle of Champigny, 30 November 1870 by Alphonse de Neuville [New Print Edition]

The Battle of Champigny was one of the largest breakout attempts of the Paris siege during the Franco-Prussian war. 52,000 French troops under the command of General Ducrot attempted to push the enemy from the villages of Bry, Champigny and Villiers. After successes at Bry and Champigny, the French faced a too heavily entrenched enemy at Villiers and the breakout ultimately failed, with counter-attacks at Champigny eventually forcing a French retreat after heavy fighting.
