The Battle of Oeversee, fought on 6th February 1864, during the Second Schleswig War, saw Danish and Austrian forces clash as the Danes retreated from Dannevirke. The Danish 7th Brigade, under Colonel Max Muller, mounted a fierce defence but was eventually forced to withdraw after intense combat. The Danish army managed to retreat safely to Dybbal, though it faced public and political backlash for abandoning Dannevirke.
