The Battle of Stones River, was marked by its intense combat and high number of casualties on both sides. Union General William S. Rosecrans's forces faced off against Confederate General Braxton Bragg's army near Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Despite heavy casualties and a challenging winter environment, the Union forces ultimately secured a strategic victory, solidifying their control over central Tennessee.
