NBP0251PC. The Boy Hero of HMS Chester

John Travers Cornwell was a British naval cadet who became a posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC) for his bravery during the Battle of Jutland in May 1916. At just 16 years old, he served on the HMS Chester, a light cruiser that was heavily engaged in the battle. During the action, Cornwell was manning a gun when the ship was struck and suffered severe casualties. Despite being wounded and under fire he continued to serve at his post, showing exceptional courage and determination. Unfortunately, he died from his injuries shortly after the battle.
