The Battle of Rezonville, fought on August 16, 1870, during the Franco-Prussian War, was a fierce clash between French and Prussian forces. The French, under General François MacMahon sought to break through the Prussian lines to relieve their
besieged comrades at Metz. The battle was marked by intense combat in the village of Rezonville and its surrounding areas with both sides suffering heavy casualties. The Prussians led by General August von Gneisenau, managed to bold their positions and inflict significant losses on the French, who eventually withdrew. The Prussian victory at Rezonville
contributed to the strategic encirclement of the French forces and was a significant step towards the eventual siege of Metz.
