The Retreat of the Boer Artillery to Paardberg by John Charlton
The Battle of Paardeberg on February 18-27 1900, saw British troops under Lord Roberts catch up with General Piet Cronje and his Boer force as they tried to retreat along the Modder River. After a failed and costly frontal assault, the British surrounded the Boer camp and bombarded it for several days. With no way out and supplies running low, Cronjé surrendered along with over 4,000 of his men
