The Square at Abu-Kru by Archibald Forbes [Postcard]

Fought on the 19th of January 1885, the Battle of Abu Kru took place between British forces and Sudanese Mahdists. The British were heading towards Khartoum when they came under attack a short distance from the Nile, they formed a square and continued towards the river, successfully fighting off the Mahdist forces. Taken from the original book plates published in 1909.
