General Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben's meeting with Washington at Valley Forge in February 1778 was a pivotal moment in the American Revolutionary War. Von Steuben, a former Prussian officer, had come to America to assist the Continental Army. Washington welcomed him warmly, recognizing the potential benefits of his extensive military experience. During their meeting, von Steuben presented Washington
with a plan to reorganize and train the Continental Army. He proposed
a rigorous training regimen to instil discipline and improve the soldiers' combat effectiveness. Washington, aware of the dire need for improved military skills and discipline among his troops readily accepted von Steuben's offer.
